Evil Tech

My first post will be under the tab “evil tech”. I named it this because in this section of my blog, I will be discussing the parts of Mr. Yates’s career that he and/or others think might describe him as an evil or satanic person. I am going to start off with talking about my personal favorite album, K.O.D.  This album is considered to be Tech N9ne’s darkest album. The cover of the CD is Aaron Yates wearing a black suit in the middle of a burnt down forest with black crows flying across his path. The colors give off a dark feel and warn the listener of what is to come in the album. My first reaction to this CD when I picked it up was, “Wow, Tech went all out on this one.” I couldn’t wait to open it up! I sat down and listened to the whole thing the second I got it, beginning to end. My initial reaction was “what do I even say?” It moved me in a way I never thought possible. Its story was the most entrancing thing my ears had ever witnessed. The lyrics had such a deep meaning and the beats and tone of the music made me feel pumped up like I used to feel in the locker room before my high school football games. I decided to look into what Tech was thinking when he made this record and stumbled upon a few facts that set my perspective straight about him. First of all, his mother is like a God to him. He loves her more than anyone in this whole world. In one interview he said she is “Jesus”, just that no one knows it yet. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis and put into a mental hospital at the time of the record. I also had an aunt of mine die from pancreatitis, so I know how he feels. K.O.D. stand for King of Darkness. In this record he questions God right from the start. The name of the song is “Show Me a God” and he talks about how if there is a God then why won’t he help him in his time of need. His next song gets straight to the point in talking about all his demons in his life. It goes on from there telling dark stories about how he raped a girl and killed a guy (these are all fictional stories but it shows how dark his mind is and shows what is truly going through the mind of Aaron Yates. His last song on the album is titled K.O.D. This song goes into the deeper mind of Tech. He talks about the world as if it were his own and how his ways would make the world a better place. It is a metaphor for his bigger goal in life, which is to achieve total hip-hop dominance. He wants his name to be recognized worldwide so he speaks as if he has already achieved it.
He explains more about what he was feeling when he was making the album in an interview with his label, Strange Music. “Like for K.O.D. I said “I want them dark as fuck. My mom has pancreatitis. I don’t give a fuck I just want to be the King of Darkness. I don’t care what nobody thinks.  Dark as fuck nigga. I’m talking about your worst nightmare!” Then Matic Lee did “Demons”. I was like “Hell yeah!” (Growls the horn melody) “Yeah nigga THAT’S what I need! I’m going to put Three 6 Mafia on this motherfucker!” Then Elmo I think he did “Blackened The Sun” and I was like “Oh my motherfucking God.” It just tapped into me. It just brought it out of me.” He later goes on to mention, “most of my spirit comes from up above. I’m mostly angel, but sometimes we fall. Living under God and I hope it’s listening when I say ‘I love you all!’” This album is Tech’s darkest, deepest album and they only keep getting better.

This weeks post is about pain, depression and how to deal with these issues. I know what your thinking, ‘how does this have anything to do with Tech N9ne?’ Trust me guys, Tech has many issues which need to be brought to the table for his fans. Tech is all about angels and demons. He vividly describes, in his music, what is going through his mind. If a psychologist were to listen to his music, he would immediately come to the conclusion that Tech is depressed and has a lot of pain, which comes out through his music. Tech is constantly calling himself a “fuck-up” in his songs. He tells his listeners how he has continually messed up parts of his life. The song “My Wife, My Bitch, My Girl”, along with many others, illustrates why he can never have a steady relationship between him and a woman. Tech is a sex addict; plain and simple. This song describes how he can never stay true to anyone because he cannot say no to sex. The story seems to be the same throughout each of his songs regarding this subject. The women usually finds out Tech is cheating on them and ends up becoming what Technicians would call a “Psycho Bitch”, a crazy woman. Never being able to keep a relationship along with the death of his mother, are the main two factors which fuel his pain described through his music. Songs such as, “Pain Killer”, describe how he has resorted to drugs to calm him down when these issues come up. This is one of the reasons Tech N9ne is a renowned drug user; a factor which leads some of his fans to follow in his footsteps. Other songs, such as “Am I a Psycho?” give Tech fans an image of what it is like to be inside his mind. He elaborates on how he believes he is crazy. He knows he’s not like the other people around him; his mind is a scary place to be. People have called Tech crazy for years. People around him doubted him and constantly reminded him how he was never going to make it in the music industry. These people gave Tech the inspiration to achieve his goals and become one of the most famous rappers of all time. Tech describes the effect, which these people had on his career in his music. Even he is not too cocky to admit that these people fueled his career and helped him become who he is today. Tech has become a star in the music industry and like most stars; he has given into the stress that comes with it, leading to his constant drug usage.

This post will be in the “Evil Tech” section of my blog. This week I have been thinking about last weeks post. I began talking about Tech’s album K.O.D. and mentioned his reasons for writing the album and how it affected his career, but I never talked about the best part of the album or all of Tech N9ne’s albums. The main reason I began listening to Tech N9ne in the first place was because he is a BADASS! I was a rebellious teenager and I, along with Tech N9ne, have some demons that we don’t like to mention. Though we don’t enjoy talking about our problems, it won’t stop us from bringing them up. Tech N9ne is one of my heroes because he isn’t afraid to be himself and tell it like it is. I try to shape my personal life to match his thought process on life. Back to the main point, Aaron Yates is fearless in his music. He will put anything he is thinking into his lyrics. He even puts some things into his songs to mess with his listeners. On his album, All 6’s and 7’s, the song titled “Fuck Food” was originally titled ‘Food’. The song is a dirty, sex song in which Tech, T-Pain and Lil Wayne go all out with very explicit lyrics talking about their sex lives. The song was originally titled ‘Food’ but Tech changed the name because he didn’t want the song to go mainstream with such big, featured artists on the track. Even though the song didn’t go mainstream, It is played in almost every night club in the U.S. Tech was surprised to find out that his fans wanted to hear songs like this. The point that I am trying to make here is that Tech is fearless in his music. His songs talk about everything, from evil sex crazed songs to songs about is drug use and even to songs about his career. Tech N9ne tells stories when he spits rhymes. This is the reason I listen to him, he inspires me to not hold back in anything I do along with giving me an epic story to listen to every time I put headphones in my ears. This weeks post is an introduction to what is coming next week. I plan to go deep into the mind of Tech N9ne while talking about his darkest moments and the reason that there is an evil side to Mr. Yates.
